As you may already know, Burning Man, an annual tradition for us, holds a lot of significance for us as individuals and for us as a couple. Burning Man is a week long 'festival' out in the middle of nowhere in Nevada's Black Rock Desert. It is a yearly gathering of 40-50,000 people coming together to create our beloved Black Rock City. It's a temporary city with a gift economy; dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. Though an endless amount of effort throughout the year goes into planning and 'building' this temporary city; Black Rock City is only officially 'up and running' one week out of the year in the summertime. Amazingly, this enormous gathering is a leave no trace event....every abandoned bicycle, every piece of litter, every stray sequin - taken care of.
For us Burning Man is a place that we go to practice more fully being ourselves. It is a place of creativity and self expression without limits or boundaries. We connect with new parts of ourselves and then bring those new found pieces back with us into our day to day life at home. It is a place where we have made fast and meaningful friendships. Amazing friends that we share such bizarre and meaningful experiences with. It is a place where we experience profound bliss and huge frustration; filthy dust and stunning sunsets; immense creativity and nasty port-o-potties; deep connections and severe dust storms; light and playful, dark and dirty. It's ALL part of the total experience. Just as 'ALL' of it is a part of life and part of a marriage. |
